.1[g])....XP 50 / XP 80 / JV 2080 / JV 880.
Many people talk about the sound of these machines.
I directly plugged these machines in my 12/04 VLZ pro mackie and leveled to 8 my ear monitors so :
XP 50 has resident noise (when setting level from 5 to 10 on the synth, without playing a note) but you really can record with it.
JV 2080 has resident noise (when setting level from 5 to 10 on the synth, without playing a note) but Sound is more brillant is much louder than XP 50.I was disapointed some tones go dead after you let the unit sound a few second with sustain pedal on (with sesssion expansion card).
XP 80 has resident noise (when setting level from 5 to 10 on the synth, without playing a note) but Sound is less brillant than JV 2080 but is LARGER than XP 50 and........ JV 2080 (Diffrence is poor but there is one).
JV 880 has almost NO resident noise (when setting level to 10 on the synth, without playing a note). SOUND is fatter than Xp50, XP 80 and JV 2080, but it lacks polyphony, has slow envelopes and when you plug somme expansions cards (session) in it, some tones go dead after you let the unit sound a few second with sustain pedal on. 2)..And then there is the "Trails" After certain sounds with long decays are dying out, you get this fuzzy digital distortion type of sound. Some people don't hear it at first.
I first noticed this when I was recording. I couldn't believe that it was there. But it sure is. It shows up in the xp-80, jv1080, jv-2080..someone said that it doesn't show up in the xv-3080-- so maybe Roland got a clue and fixed it?
But for recording it horrible, at just that quite moment as the last notes are dying out -FUZZ Crackle Drop out!
...there is a sort of hiss that sometimes lingers
long after the machine has stopped producing musical sounds. This
problem is actually extremely subtle . . . in fact it could be hard to
detect without high quality recording equipment or a first rate pair of
headphones. For live performance the static would certainly go unnoticed,
but might require some special attention in the studio to avoid spoiling
any moments of pure silence intended to be part of a recordin
3)My xp-80 has a grunge-static noise on notes with alot of sustain.
Add in a little reverb, and its downright ANNOYING. Try one of the accoustic guiatr patches, or a sharp piano. Make sure the effects and chorus buttons are enabled. I first noticed this when in my quiet home with a pair of studio quality headphones. It is balatant in a quiet environment. It seems this problem would render the xp-60 USELESS for quieter passages in the studio.
