[pre]Many, many ways of doing this on a PC3.
Here is a quick way of doing the effect using a preset as an example. It will use only one layer of the preset for the demonstration..
Kurzweil have "swell" programmed into many of the brass sounds. (Breath to which isn't mentioned) Go to "58 Sax/Trumpet sctn" and press EDIT.
Press [Q ACCESS] button to solo layer 1.
Press [AMP]
Press [DSPMOD].
You will see that ASR1. FUN3 can lower the sound -7dB. To hear the effect more as we do this set it from -7 to -19dB.
If you go to the FUN page you will see that FUN3 has Data and Mono pressure setup to work in a lopass FUN.
All this does is create a bit of time so when you squeeze the keys (MPress) or use the Data slider,
the response is not robotic...ie linear.
Now if you wanted more control where you trigger what you want and the swell happens for the same amount of time everytime,
we can use a time based control source.
Like an ASR.
Lets say you want a 2 second swell time.
Go back to the DSPMOD page for AMP and change ASR1 to ON and FUN3 to ASR1.
Nothing interesting happens because we have not got ASR1 set up yet.
So before you leave here, understand that ASR1 is controlling the drop -19dB of the layer all the time.
Go to the ASR1 page and change Hold to Norm.
Now if you press and hold a key..... it takes 30 seconds for the sell. (30 seconds is set in the Release for ASR1)
Now if you change that 30 seconds to 2.00 seconds... its shorter.
Okay.. problem is triggers all the time. Change the Trigger from ON to FUN3.
Now it triggers when you squeeze the keys or use the Data slider. You could put a foot pedal in here to trigger it as well.
You can do a whole lot more to improve this. But that’s the basis of it from a VAST perspective.[/pre]
